JC Bach was well traveled and fully versed in the most modem styles of musical composition of his day. In his sonatas, fleeting moments of unpredictability grace a polished patina of familiarity. Mozart was sufficiently impressed to make keyboard concertos out of several of them.
Martynova renders these piece, with kindness and wit, without the smallest trace of pretension. (Pretentiousness is the great trap that classical era music can fall into when not played well; in the era preceding JC Bach, the great trap is excess.)
